Talking Marras – Every Friday at Hirst Welfare Centre

Talking Marras is a welcoming peer support group that’s been running since 2018. It was started by local people who wanted to stay connected after another group came to an end – and it’s grown into a supportive, friendly community.
Many of us have experienced things like anxiety, depression, loneliness, or simply needed a reason to get out of the house. We meet every Friday to chat over tea and coffee, enjoy a bit of company, and take part in relaxed activities like arts and crafts.
We raise a bit of money through craft fairs to fund day trips and social outings, and we look after our own small garden and allotment, growing fresh salad and veg – good for both the body and the mind.
We often link up with other local groups who might need a hand, and we keep in touch through a private Facebook page where we can check in and support each other between sessions.
There’s always something going on – games like bingo and dominoes (with a few prizes of chocolate, biscuits and soup up for grabs), gentle chat, laughter and a warm welcome.
We just ask for a small donation of 30p for unlimited tea and coffee, and 30p per game (we usually play four each week – just enough for a bit of fun).
Why not pop in and give it a go?
There’s no pressure – just good company and something to look forward to.
