Hirst Welfare Centre is home to a range of warm, accessible spaces that can be used for all sorts of community activities – from activity groups, local meetings and family gatherings to training sessions, creative workshops, and more.
We also have outdoor facilities available, including both grass and 3G football pitches, which are suitable for regular team bookings, casual kickabouts, and organised events.
Whether you’re starting something new, continuing a long-running group, or just need a welcoming space to bring people together, we’ll help you find something that suits.
We offer fair and flexible pricing, and we’re always happy to talk through what’s possible. You can request a booking online, give us a call, or speak to our reception team – we’ll work with you to make it simple.

Main Hall
Our Main Hall is a bright, welcoming and versatile space at the heart of Hirst Welfare Centre. It’s regularly used for community events, social groups, fitness classes, meetings, celebrations, and more.
With a large open floor plan, the hall can be set up to suit a variety of activities – from seated gatherings and workshops to movement-based sessions or community meals. It’s fully accessible, with tables and chairs available on request, and access to audio-visual equipment where needed.

NUF Hub Room
The Newcastle United Foundation Hub Room is a relaxed, informal space designed with young people and social groups in mind. It features a pool table, table tennis, and a TV, making it ideal for youth sessions, drop-ins, casual meetings, and small group activities.
Comfortable and flexible, the room can be used for games, quiet time, or creative activities. It’s a popular space during school holidays and evening sessions, and provides a safe, welcoming environment for young people to spend time and connect with others.

Senior Pitch
Our senior grass pitch is a well-maintained, full-size playing surface suitable for adult football fixtures, training sessions, and community sport.
Located within the grounds of Hirst Welfare Centre, the pitch is easily accessible and regularly used by local teams and groups. Changing and toilet facilities are available on site, along with optional access to indoor spaces for team briefings or post-match refreshments.
Whether it’s league matches, friendlies, or casual community use, the pitch provides a quality outdoor space in the heart of Ashington.
Junior Pitch
Our junior grass pitch is a dedicated space for children’s football, ideal for training, weekend fixtures, and community use.
Sized for youth teams and maintained to a good standard, the pitch offers a safe and accessible environment for young players to enjoy the game and develop their skills. It’s located within the grounds of Hirst Welfare Centre, with access to on-site facilities including changing rooms and toilets.

The Wansbeck Room is our smallest meeting space, offering a quiet and comfortable setting with a view over the community garden and pitches. It’s ideal for one-to-one conversations, small meetings, support sessions, or quiet working.
Its calm atmosphere and natural light make it a great choice for low-key, focused activity. Positioned within the Centre but slightly tucked away, it offers privacy while still being close to main facilities.
